A Loss of a Legend, Robert Mondavi

May 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Well a great legend has passed away.  Robert Mondavi was 94 when he passed yesterday morning.  What is so amazing was that he was his later years normal self on Sunday when he came in for Brunch with his family.  I personally knew of this great man and what a wonderful contribution he made to the food and wine world.  If it wouldn’t have been for his inovativeness we would never have a wine world like we have today.  Or the ability to teach from all we know about wines today.  Living in the same valley as him over the years I have seen so much come out of his family.  Robert Mondavi Winery is only 1 of his ventures.  Do you know about Opus One, his extremly beautiful high end winery partnered with the Rothschild family or that he owned Woodbridge wines which most places use to cook with?  Or how about Charles Krug or La Famiglia?  Let alone Copia, the center for wine and arts and the amazing Julia’s Kitchen restaurant.  And lets not forget the Mondavi Center at UC Davis.  Overall this man was way beyond amazing.  He will be missed.

This is a beatiful article about his life
