Today was the last day to submit a video for the MY Favorite Disney Parks Moment contest and I finally got mine submitted.
Gosh it is really hard to come up with only one minute on a favorite Disney moment. Considering we have visited about 15 times in the last 6 years! That isn’t a whole lot except we have always driven to Disney and we live 16 hours away.
It all started with my sister and her family coming back from a Christams trip to Disney in 2002 and showing us tons of pictures and just droning on and on about the vacation. Our son was getting ready to turn 3 so we figured that a Disney trip would be a great present. So we called a travel agent and before we knew it we were scheduled to stay at the Yacht Club for 5 days! I had not been to Disney since I was a teenager and my husband had never been. We were now going to get to experience the magic of Disney through a child’s eyes.
Needless to say we were hooked from the moment we checked in. The Yacht Club was awesome and the pool was outrageous. My son was a huge Captain Hook fan and that big steering wheel was a great prop for pretending not to mention the pirate ship pool. However, it was hard to pull ourselves from the park to enjoy the pool.
We had so much fun at the Parks that we decided before we left that we would be returning regularly and when we got home I started investigating via the internet and found all the wonderful forums and the next year all three of us were proud Disney Annual Passholders and we visited at least 2 to 3 times a year.
We have tons of pictures and videos and even more memories, so when we had to choose only a minute for a favorite memory it was going to be hard. Should it be when Timon played hide and seek with William in the lobby of the Yacht Club, or how about when we did a tour searching for Hook’s hook and we were the only people on the tour so William got to meet Peter Pan and ride Peter Pan’s Ride, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion with Peter Pan?? (That was totally awesome as it was our third trip and William got an ear infection and was sick and bed ridden for the first 6 of the 7 days of that vacation. It was worth every penny when on the last day, he got star treatment from Peter Pan. I can’t tell you how many happy tears I cried that day! How about when he went to grand adventures in cooking at the Grand Floridian and they marched out to serve us their great creation and he told the cast members his Mom would cry if he made me dirt with worms?? The Pirate Cruise, Alice & The Mad Hatter Tea Party?? His very first pin trade with Bill from Tomorrowland??? Bill, I need to tell you has become a fast family friend and is someone we visit on every vacation. He is a wonderful cast member with a huge heart and most definitely the Disney Spirit. How about our Christmas visit before our first Disney Cruise?? Or the time William was artist of the day at the store in MGM?? I have the pictures of him sitting at the animator’s desk and drawing. He made fast friends with Derek and he knows that this is what he wants to do when he grows up. OR, how about him sketching with Don Ducky Williams……. The memories each more memorable then the last come flooding into my mind.
I made my husband pull out all the videos and I decided to watch and see which would be the best. I finally decided to start at the beginning, on the first day we have a video of us riding into the park. The next scene is waiting to get on the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin (which is now a family tradition to make that our first ride). Then came the hugs, we took him into a character tent to meet Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger between the hugs came the dancing and he danced and he danced. Then the characters came to greet us in the lobby of the Yacht Club and William danced with Goofy so these are the memories I used. I hope you will watch my video memories I called it “Falling in Love with Disney”
