Homemade cards and saving money

April 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Thanks to a good friend, I have started saving money by making cards. My friend has a young child and they make cards for friends and family on special occasions. When I visited them a couple of months ago my friend brought out her card making box. She had several cute Disney stamps as well as other stamps. She decorates her cards with ribbons and other decorations.

After our visit (actually during our visit) I purchased a stamp for Easter Cards and blank note cards. In the two months since I have accumulated several other stamps. I had a cousin getting married. I needed a congratulations card. I bought a stamp that said congratulations and a silver embossing stamp pad. I have purchased a ‘Thanks” stamp. A “thinking of you stamp”, a heart garland, a teddy bear, and a flower stamp. As well as a cocoa embossing stamp pad.

I have always loved stamps. But didn’t think about using them as a money saving tool on cards. I need several more stamps to make the collection truly money saving. I haven’t purchased a “Happy Birthday” stamp, yet. And of course, there are Disney stamps I haven’t started to collect, yet.

And since most arts and crafts store have weekly sales. I usually pay forty percent or less of the regular price by waiting for stamps or stamp pads to go on sale.

I’m always amazed by those who make their own cards.
