A not so prudent weekend

March 30th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I am jumping into my first blog. Don’t be mislead by my screen name. Prudenceshops. I love a good deal. I love a good bargain. But I also love a quality product. A nice name brand. And I couldn’t help but laugh at my own self yesterday. The weekend I am beginning to blog. Beginning to blog under the name prudenceshops no less. I go shopping. Of course! But I just didn’t go to Wal-Mart or Target. I went to a wealthy area of our county to shop!
My Saturday shopping excursion started off with good bargains and the sales receipt total to go with it. My mother and I literally were the first few  customers into a nearby Coldwater Creek store.  Coldwater Creek was having an up to 70% off their spring clearance. I left with $250.00 worth of clothes for about $53. My mother did as well if not better than I did.

Did I mention that in the same area as Coldwater Creek there is a high end factory outlet mall? Did we have enough time before my afternoon commitment to stop by? You bet we did!

And this is where prudence quit shopping. Kind of. Into a high end store we go. I see a beautiful red purse. It is on the 40% off rack. But it is the only one of its kind on the rack. Surely it was misplaced. Sales Person Dotty walks up. I guess she can see that I’m trying to see if the beautiful red purse should be on this rack. Dotty informs me that the purse is indeed 40% off and the ONLY one of its kind remaining in the store.

The purse did not leave my arm until I got to the register. Other women were looking at it. I started to feel watched. I knew if I hesitated for one moment, put the bag down to consider it a little more.  It would be gone. It appears that a man bought the red purse for his wife. She didn’t like it (thank you!) and returned it. The other bags like it had already been sold. So the store marked the lone red purse down deeply. I am so glad that wife did not like her gift.

Was it prudent of me to spend the money? Probably not. I am trying to be better about budgeting and planning purchases. But this was a bargain that I will not see again for a while in a store like that. And I have a very nice purse for $200.00 less than I could have purchased it in a department store. So on second thought, maybe it was a prudent purchase. Maybe Prudence did continue to shop after all.

WOW!! $200 off the price of a purse?! Sounds like a great deal! I don’t think I’ve ever owned a purse that cost over $40 full price? lol

Great start to your blogging…can’t wait to read more.

Nothing wrong with a nice red purse especially if its one of a kind and 40% off ;)

If there are two things it is ALWAYS prudent to buy it would be purses and shoes!
