I just don’t get it

April 10th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I just don’t get it… This new trend in Hollywood that has been springing up the past year or two: drug rehab. It seems like any time a young celebutante – Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, Kirsten Dunst, Britney Spears, the list can go on – gets stressed out or acts out in public they just run to a fabulous, beach front or mountain side rehab center for a few weeks for some rest and relaxation like its normal and everyone does it. Then they come back rested up and work again only to run back next time they are feeling stressed.

What ever happened to drug rehab for people who really wanted to turn their lives around and get help? Lately its been turned into a joke and centers are getting filled up with people who think it is the latest trendy thing to do. Centers should not be used as a spa getaway. It just makes me so mad because there are people who really need help and they are now either turned off or can’t get in. I’m glad these celebutantes are promoting rehab as a positive way to turn around lives and get on the right track but it seems like its not really needed for them. Almost a Catch-22: promoting it is positive but its negative the way they just flit around and “vacation” there without really changing. Then again… maybe its just the media’s spin on things. Either way I hope it doesn’t turn off those who really and truly want a change.
