Its seems as if Mike and I are in another wedding spurt. I find that we’ll both have a group of friends who get married around the same time and then we’ll have a lull of only 1 or maybe 2 weddings in a year and then we’ll get another spurt of friends getting married. A few years ago I think we both attended 6 weddings that year and then last year was our calm year of only 2. It seems like 2009 is going to be another year filled with multiple weddings including the possibility of our own.
While I haven’t officially started planning my own wedding, I have started to look back and remember the different weddings I have attended in the past few years to get an idea of the things I liked and I disliked. One thing I did enjoy was a wedding we attended in Austin where the bride and groom decorated the tables with very simple yet elegant flowers. I started thinking that maybe a simplistic theme would be a nice way to go and started exploring the idea of simple floral arrangements. I actually came across a pretty neat idea: mini plants that you use as wedding table decorations and guests can bring home after the wedding as their wedding gift. I don’t plan on having a huge guest list so the $2.99/plant is not really a bad idea and the plants would give the room a nice green/springy feel.
I really loved the mini palm tree favor below. I have a huge thing for palm trees and they can be quite expensive but this would be a nice alternative. Plus you could plant the tree in your yard and watch it grow. It would be a nice wedding keepsake to remember how you started and where you have “grown” in the time since your wedding. Your guests may not be as sentimental as the the wedding couple but this tree growing would still have a special meaning for them.

You can customize the ribbon on the plant to match your wedding colors and you can also have the pot or the ribbon imprinted with the bride and groom’s name and date of the wedding. So if you are looking for wedding table decorations or unique favors visit The Wedding Greenhouse and give mini plants a thought.

Those look nice, they’re not junky like some wedding favors.
