If you have been following my United Kingdom pre-trip planning report/posts you know that in less than 45 days I will be making my first visit to the United Kingdom. We’ve had another hiccup in the travel planning – my dad’s work project has been delayed again and he has to fly over in two weeks to have another meeting about the progress of the plant and when he and his group can start working over there. So it sounds like another stall tactic and almost seals the fact that he will not be over there in May and Mike and I will be deciding to go at it alone or cancel. We sat down and had a heart to heart and decided if I can make it work without costing a fortune we can still go. So the accountant in me is coming out and I have spent a good portion of the morning doing some number crunching and thinking about all the places we could go over there since we are no longer tied to the Northeast. As of right now our original fear of $5k a person has been decreased dramatically to $1500 per person. Yipee!
So now I’m trying to decide where I’d like to go because we can now go wherever we would like and there are the budget flights throughout the UK that are cheaper than train tickets. So today I am researching Cornwall. For those of you unfamilar with UK geography like I was before planning this trip Cornwall is on the Southwest Coast of England. Cornwall is a rural area of England situated on the coast so they have beaches, water sports, access to seafood, and just a nice peaceful getaway from the busy metropolitans of England. I love a nice peaceful vacation more than anything else and I think Cornwall might be a great destination for Mike and I to hit up while on our vacation since we will be hopping all around the UK.
Some of the activities you could do/see over there include watching a live play at the Minack Theatre which was carved out of the cliffs of Cornwall, strolling down the picturesque European roads of Cornwall to local shops and to the beach, as well as staying at cozy bed and breakfasts instead of corporate hotels. Also just taking in the scenery and thinking about how the cliffs, seaside, and greenery inspired JK Rowling (2 chapters of Harry Potter were based in Cornwall) or Wagner’s (his opera Tristan and Isolde was based in Cornwall) writing and creativity would just be amazing.
Well I think the more I research Cornwall the more excited I get about it. I found a pretty neat website which helps you plan your Luxury Break in Cornwall right down to weekly accomodations in apartment style settings. If you are sold on Cornwall like I am check out the website and see if a Luxury Break in Cornwall is right for you. I have definitely saved this website as a possible honeymoon location next year as it is not a typical tropical beach but at the same time it offers the same type of relaxation and fun that you need after planning and making it through a wedding! I might actually check it out this summer on our trip so I know which accomodations to request for next year.
