Ever since I moved to Houston and started working downtown and going to “midtown” here I started being more aware of my surroundings. Houston is much bigger than what I was use to with Baton Rouge. I also rarely went near downtown let alone late at night. While I feel safe overall here in Houston I still know I shouldn’t be naive and think I’m immune to anything bad happening to me.
So I started thinking about finding a good and easy to use pepper spray for when I have to leave work late/after dark. I find the key chain ones to be a tad difficult to navigate in low stress situations and I don’t feel too confident in them in a high stress situation. I decided there had to be a better one – maybe army or police grade – that I could pick up instead. I found a pretty cool internet order website SWAT gear which is a one stop shop for police gear but they sell to the general public like you and I who are looking for self defense gear.
I actually found a really easy to use pepper spray where all you do is put your thumb under the top and push down to spray. No flipping tops to the side or unlocking. Just slightly flip the top up with your finger and shoot! Its also a pretty shade of red/pink so I won’t be able to miss it in my handbag. I think I’m going to go ahead and order one since my last can was confiscated at the airport (oops!). I recommend everyone else check out the site as well. If pepper spray isn’t your thing SWAT gear also carries large flashlights and batons.
