Fellow Millenials, you may have noticed that we have picked up another charming nickname-Generation Debt. Yes, we millenials seem to be notorious for racking up debt. If you find yourself looking at your credit card, student loan, personal loans and auto loans and are feeling a little overwhelmed, you might want to think […]

Yay Halloween!
July 31st, 2008 · No Comments
My favorite holiday is Halloween. While adulthood has limited my costuming (or Fancy Dress, as the British say), I can still revel in the glories of costumes gone by. My first year of college I was a fairy-I wore a blue disco dress I had from a show I was in in high […]
Finally got the Q2 401K statement
July 31st, 2008 · No Comments
I finally got my Q2 statement from my 401K. It actually didn’t lose money over Q2, although I was happy to see my poorest performing fund has been ended and a new fund is offered. I also took advantage of the reminder and went in and manually rebalanced my account, so everything is where it […]

Responsible PF blogger-FAIL!

So, as I believe I’ve mentioned before, I’m currently dealing with a pile of medical bills from issues earlier this year. I’ve learned that while certain bills may only come with the option of paying by check; I can call and pay by credit card over the phone. So I had a bill, and took […]

The other day I got a letter from ING Direct regarding my Roth IRA. As they are now connected to Sharebuilder, starting “this fall” we will have access to investing in our IRA’s through Sharebuilder. While I’m happy with ING’s fund offerings, I am curious as to what the new offerings will be.

I got a new credit card
July 16th, 2008 · 1 Comment
I ended up getting a new credit card on Sunday. See, my mom’s the one in the household with the LL Bean Visa, so for purchases from LL Bean I generally have her charge it, and I pay her in cash (she does the same with me for Amazon). However, LL Bean switched credit card companies at […]

It comes twice a year, it being the statement from an OBRA (state retirement plan) I contributed to while I was a substitute teacher. It’s $50, which isn’t anything to sneeze at (although, clearly I don’t even bother including it in my networth). Trouble is, because it’s a “governmental” plan, I can’t […]

Sometimes I realize I can come across as boring

A message board I’m on asked a question recently-what was your first splurge once you started working. I paused and couldn’t think of anything. Then it hit me-not worrying about big splurges is my big splurge. Being in a place where if I need a new bag/camera/phone I don’t need to sweat it-there’s no waiting […]
I don’t give a fig about my “bad” reputation
July 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments
Apparently I have a reputation for being frugal. A friend was talking about how she’d been convinced by a co-worker to sign up for a frequent shopper card at a local restaurant to get her birthday freebie, and did anyone want to join her when she got free food. My instant reply was “I heart […]
Death of the Christmas Club?
July 1st, 2008 · 6 Comments
Does the decline of the Christmas Club indicate something larger about society? An older co-worker was discussing her Christmas Club and Vacation Club accounts for savings. It’s the same principle as my Vacation Fund, but it is kind of like a CD in that you can’t access it until a certain date. […]
