(I am aware of the irony of posting this before Valentine’s Day, when one could argue that being single is a money-saving venture)
As I’ve mentioned time and time again on here, I am a avid traveler, and being something of an independent sort, a fan of solo travel. Most of the time, I’m ok with [...]

Boston-area staffing agency reviews
January 26th, 2010 · 1 Comment
As a disclaimer, I’m only including my personal opinion here, your mileage may vary.
With the new glut of college graduates coming onto the job market soon, as well as the ever-increasing number of people who have been laid off, I thought that a review of the three Boston-area agencies I used in 2006 may be [...]
401K update…
January 8th, 2010 · 1 Comment
When I started my (then-newish! Been there a year!) job, I was concerned about my 401K contribution, as I knew my employer would contribute a set amount, but not an amount I would know about until the end of the year. A few weeks ago I got the word-my earning were matched at 45%. I’ve [...]

“I thought there was supposed a recession economy”
December 28th, 2008 · No Comments
Thus was the sentence utter by a shopper next to me at the local Coach outlet yesterday; which was quite crowded. Of course, the 50% sale plus the 10% off coupon handed out as you enter the store (which isn’t a localized thing, I got handed the same coupon at the Las Vegas outlet two [...]

So mad at myself

Yesterday I had a message from Sharebuilder. They wanted to let me know I didn’t have the transfer fee-I had thought they would deduct it, but I needed to put it in my Sharebuilder account. So it’s been transferred, and hopefully this is the end and my Roth will get transferred.

I ended up opening a Roth IRA with Fidelity. I filled out the papers to rollover my IRA and mailed them to Fidelity. (sidenote-Sharebuilder’s IRA may not thrill me, but they were very quick to let me know via e-mail that Fidelity’s paperwork would be fine). I’m feeling a little shaky on the fact that [...]

So, I finally saw the Sex and the City movie this weekend-side-effect of no longer suffering Netflix guilt. I was pretty underwhelmed at some key plot points, but there were definately some money stuff that bugged me. Before I get started-I must comment that I feel that SATC as a whole has created [...]

Me and my llama went to the dentist today…
October 1st, 2008 · 3 Comments
Except I didn’t take my llama. I went to the dentist today. I had no cavities, which is always a good thing, given that my family dental history is pretty bad. I guess the money I shell out on ACT is paying off. I was, however, warned that I need to watch the pressure I [...]
Poor Financial Choices Confessions

Dear Readers,
I have never claimed to be a personal finance saint. That said, I feel the need to admit to you I that I am guilty of the great moral plague of our era-Netflix guilt. For those of you who are not familiar with this plague, it is when you get a movie [...]

In a fire, representing seven games, in a government For hire and a combat site.

I spent a good portion of Monday spending too long reading about Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, and AIG. To be honest, given my travel insurance is through TravelGuard/AIG I had more of a personal stake in that. Are my 401K, Roth and SIP not looking so great? Well yeah, obviously. But, I’ve got a good [...]
