Penny for my thoughts review: Deal with Debt

by hedy on September 6, 2013

I reviewed Liz Pullman Weston’s other book, Your Credit Score, your money, and what’s at stake and enjoyed it.  I read Deal with Your Debt: Free Yourself from What You Owe, Updated and Revised when it was free for Kindle, and I enjoyed it.

I think I have mentioned on here a few times that I have been becoming increasingly disillusioned with the all or nothing mindset of personal finance.  Debt is Evil!  Well, it’s not ideal, but it’s often unavoidable.  I really like how Ms. Pulman Weston acknowledges this by discussing the pros of paying down loans more quickly, as opposed to not taking them at all.  Similarly, big personal finance monoliths want us to believe that credit card debt should be our first priority, but is that at the expense of something else?  I also like how she discussed the downsides of what a lot of people see as being the dream: home ownership.  Single Ma has discussed this before, but I really think home ownership is overrated.
