Expired Groupon? Know your rights!

by hedy on September 28, 2011

You know that I am addicted to social buying sites like Groupon, Living Social and Goldstar.  However, all of these gift certificates/coupons have expiration dates.  Given that Massachusetts stare law states that a gift certificate must be usable for seven years, Groupons that expire in six months seem incongruent with this law.  This thought first occured to me when Kim blogged about it a few months ago.

WCVB recently did a piece on this issue.  Groupon requires merchants to honor the amount spent on the certificate (ie, $10) even after the expiration.  So far, the only Groupon I’ve had expire was one where the restaurant was on Kitchen Nightmares shortly before it was set to expire, so I skipped it.  :)
