Penny for my Thoughts Review: The Domino Project

by hedy on May 3, 2011

As you know, I am a BzzAgent, and as such often receive products to Bzz about.  When I received the offer of being among the first to get books from Seth Godin’s Domino Project on my Kindle, I had to check it out.  To quote directly from their blog, The Domino Project is

What happens when a publisher has a tight, direct connection with readers, is able to produce intellectual property that spreads, and can do both quickly and at low cost? A new kind of publishing, the brainchild of Seth Godin, and powered by Amazon.

The Domino Project is named after the domino effect—one powerful idea spreads down the line, pushing from person to person. The Project represents a fundamental shift in the way books (and digital media based on books) have always been published. Eventually consisting of a small cadre of stellar authors, this is a publishing house organized around a new distribution channel, one that wasn’t even a fantasy when most publishers began.

This month’s book selection is Do the Work by Steven Pressfield.  Do the Work reads like a Disney-i-fied self-help book.  While I liked the fact that it emphasized doing (sending in the manuscript you wrote, or my version would be actually starting/updating a blog I’ve been thinking about starting), it seemed far too focused on the doing and not the aftermath.  Case in point from my life:  I had discussed with some fellow bloggers the idea of the Chatty Women Carnival.  In January, I posted the first one.  I got a decent amount of entries, but want to know how many followed the rules and linked back to the Carnival?  Two:  Reward Site Round-Up and Savin it up.  You can do all you want, but at some point, you have to rely on other’s to help your dreams.

But you don’t have to take my word for it: Do the Work is free on Kindle through May 20, 2011. Be certain to continue to follow me as I get my monthly Domino Project book.

Thanks so much for stopping by and stumbling.. but most of all reading my post ;) ) I stumbled back!

Sound like a semi- interesting book to read according to your review. It sounds like a great program you are taking part in!

I also wish I had a Kindle! I am seriously too cheap to get in on all the nice new technology.
