I recently signed up for a Dollars4gold.com G-Pack to be sent out to me via a banner ad on a website that I frequent. I had some ugly jewelry I had gotten for Christmas which I wanted to get rid of, as well as a few links from a bracelet I had resized, as well as an old keyring. All items were sterling silver. Given the proliferation of ads for services such as this one, including the Cash 4 Gold ad during the Super Bowl, I was curious. Ordering my G-Pack was easy-they even sent me an e-mail when it was sent. Once I got my G-pack, I realized that my items were too big for the envelope they sent. I called their customer service line, and I was instructed to attach the envelope to a box. Mailing the package was painless, and not only could I track my package, but I got an e-mail (two, in fact) from Dollars4Gold that my check was on its way.
Said check arrived yesterday, and this is where the review becomes a negative one. It was for a whopping $1.59. No, that’s not a typo. Given that the Phlx Silver Index closed at 124.01 on January 30, the day, I got my check, I was extremely underwhemed. Some Googling lead me to find out that people have gotten the amount of their check increased by calling the gold buying companies and complaining, so I picked up my phone and dialed. The customer service representative could not find me in their system (which I found disturbing). So the check is going back to Dollars4Gold, and I hope they get it in time. Provided I get my silver back, I do not know if I’ll try a different gold buying site or not.

Sorry to hear that. I sold some gold & silver (a lot of silver–from my past Mexican trips!!) last spring to another gold buyer & while I did get quite a bit for my little bit of gold, I got a decent amount for my silver….I thought anyway.
I used http://www.usgoldbuyers.com/ & they called me w/my offer before they sent the check. If I didn’t want to accept the offer, they would have just sent my items back.
I’ve suggested this same gold buyer to my husband, my MIL & a friend & they all had a very good experience.

The majority of what you sent in (2 necklaces) was silver plated costume jewelry. We buy silver and other metals based on the estimated precious metal content. We valued the rest of your items which contained very little pure silver. These items were valued based on the spot price of silver which was trading at $11.75 per ounce on 1/29/09 when your items were appraised. Unfortunately you looked up the price of Phlx Silver Index which closed at $124.01 on January 30. This INDEX is actually a capitalization-weighted index composed of the common stocks of nine companies in the gold and silver mining index. The index is a product of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange and began trading in January 1979 with an initial value of 100. Its ticker symbol is XAU.
I can understand why you were extremely underwelmed when you thought the weight of your costume jewelry and the Phlx index of $124.01 would determine your value when in fact the actual payout was small based on the actual pure silver content and actual price of silver at $11.75 per ounce.
I hope this provides an explanation to your customer service experience.

You have to be an educated consumer before sending in your valuables. Very important to make sure the prices are always listed on the front of the site. Companies that hide there prices or do not list them at all will try to low ball your jewelry. Try a company called http://www.empiregoldbuyers.com I had a good reason and they paid top dollar.

Very interesting to read some of the comments left by others who used the dollars4gold web site.
I did too, last month…. The website is very easy to use and the mailing process was equally easy. You can track or package just like they advertise.
But it is NOT worth your time, for a diamond engagement ring and wedding band they offered $32.00 when I called to complain they offered my another $50.00. Ask yourself, if the people they have appraising the jewelry know what they are doing then how can they so quickly say, ok ok then we will give you an extra 50 bucks…. The rings were not the most expensive, I agree but they were purchased from a very reputable jewelry store for almost $1500.00 12 years ago.
I have purchased costume jewelry for more then what they offer! I think they bank on people just wanting to get rid of their jewelry that they can’t wear anymore and hope they will take whatever they can get. I am holding onto my rings, hopefully I get them back:(
don’t be fooled people hard currency is the only thing that holds in a fallen economy if you give up your gold you loose an investment that will be woth something …not paper money or certificates can fail……… hard currency doesn’t they are amassing power through gold by bilking people i believe the governments of all effected contries of the world.. should investigate them thouroghly
if you must sell your gold go to the presiouse metals exchange …you will pay a fee but you get what you take they test it right there; cash in hand when leaving, be smart with your money….
Dollars 4 gold is a complete rip off! This exchange is definately for their gain and not of the people trying to sell their jewlery and gold. Dont try this stupid Sh!T
I wish I’d read this first. I sent Dollars4Gold over 40 grams of 10K gold. What I received, more than 10 days after the date on the cheque was peanuts. When I called to complain, I was told it was too late to get the gold back, but and INSTANT offer was made to double the amount. When I pointed that, according to their website, I should have received more than four times what they sent, the response was that their listed payouts are for 3 ounces or more. Yes, it is on the website, but takes a lot of looking around to find that little bit of info.
You people need your heads examined to do what is asked of you!
Wish I’d seen this before….I sent an anniversary band and a pair of earrings in halfway through OCTOBER of last year and was offered a little over $11.00 for it. Needless to say I turned it down and have been fighting to get my items back EVER SINCE. Note that its January 28 2010 AND THEY STILL HAVE MY JEWELLERY. This is SUCH a scam and I have been warning everybody I know. The Better Business Bureau has received my complaint but apparently cannot do much for me because Dollars4Gold is NOT a BBB accredited shop. Everytime I ACTUALLY get a hold of a live person on their ‘customer service’ line they mysteriously experience technical difficulties and the call winds up being cut off. I assure you that even if it winds up costing me these people will not get away with it.
I am happy to report I got my jewellery back in the mail today…i’m convinced that if I had not contacted the BBB I would not have EVER seen my items again. lesson learned – if it seems to good to be true it probablyis.

I fell for this scam. Sent in my jewelry and waited. Tracking number didn’t work in their website. Called and couldn’t get through. Forgot about it for a while. Just realized that it’s been 2 months since I sent my jewelry to them and I still haven’t heard a peep, so I called again. Got through to customer service, and they said they hadn’t received my package and would have to start a claim with Canada Post. Of course, I stupidly didn’t take a photo of what I sent in, so I have to try to remember everything. Wish I had never sent anything to them. Would have been better off going to a pawn shop. UGH.
I sent in 2 items. One a pendant I had appraised when I inherited it and it was definitely 18 karat gold and valued at $800.00. The gold bangle had 3 diamonds in it. I received a cheque for $49.00.
I called immediately and said I was returning the cheques and wanted my items back. I was offered another $50.00. The described my items as 14 karat and 10 karat, when they were 18 karat and 14 karat. To be fair, I had no problems getting through to the customer service line and I was treated courteously. I was given the option of sending in $10.00 with the cheque and having my items returned via express post, otherwise they were coming back by ordinary mail. I took this option (so yes it cost me $10) but I received by items back quite promptly.
So no – I was not happy with the pricing offered, but I have no complaints about the service aspect. I had sent items of less value into another company and received 3 times the amount back in the mail! Waste of time and ten bucks.
