Credit Card Roulette

by hedy on August 3, 2008

I’m a fan (or as those in the know say, Phan) of the Phantom Gourmet local restaurant television show. However, yesterday they had a show that I found utterly rediculous. The entire show was dedicated to a game of credit card roulette. Credit Card roulette, for those of you who don’t know, is when a bunch of people go out to eat, then put all their cards in a hat. The card drawn is the person who has to pay for the meal. This particular version was a bit more convoluted than that, but that’s the gist of the game. Now, this game is a pretty stupid, financially irresponsible idea, but I found this episode to be particularly distasteful. Among the competitors were a chef known as Louie Dihicari, who had no credit card and therefore had an envelope of borrowed cash, and Crazy legs Conti, a competitive eater who was the person who ended up paying, but closed by saying he wasn’t sure if he had enough of a free amount on the card. While I know this show was for entertainment value, blah, blah, blah, I still found it incredible stupid, and it bugs me that they were promoting financial irresponsibility for entertainment value.

I don’t see the link, but I’ve heard of the game. I agree, it is in very poor taste, especially given our current state of economy.

I got myself in severe hot water with credit cards when in college, and I hate having that mark on my credit! It drives me crazy to see the shameless promotion of irresponsible spending on tv.

Any game with roulette in the title is probably best to avoid!

Sounds pretty ridiculous. It sounds like a few of those in attendance really couldn’t afford to play the game!!
