For those of us baseball fans, one of the biggest days of the season is coming up-the All Star game. Especially with my Sox in first place, I’m looking forward to it. But it get me thinking to some less than happy memories that have occurred in the days of the Sox history. In particular, I thought of one man whose name I must always cross myself after saying-Bill Buckner. For those of you not from Boston, in game 6 of the 1986 Word Series between the Sox and the Mets, the Sox led the series. The game was tied, until the ball rolled between Bill Buckner’s legs. The Mets got the run and one the game and later the series.
Being a dyed in the wool Sox fan, I was taught to hate Bill Buckner. I suppose he felt he gained face when he threw out the first pitch at opening day this year, but I still harbor a resentment. One does, however, wonder how things might have turned out differently. For example, what if Bill had taken a stress relieving medication such as AbsoluteCalm that is on the market nowadays. Absolute Calm is a dietary supplement that calms your nerves within 15 minutes on an empty stomach, and 30-60 minutes on a full stomach. Its effects can last between eight to twelve hours-more than long enough for a baseball game. Had Buckner taken Absolute Calm that fateful night, maybe he would have been more relaxed and we wouldn’t have needed to wait 14 more years for a World Series ring.
Go Sox!
