A few months ago, I was struck by an acute case of homesickness-homesickness, in this case, being defined as “being sick of being at home.” I looked into potential vacation spots for a long weekend, and decided to spend a weekend in Mystic, CT. I priced some local hotels, and also contacted my local AAA chapter so I could compare their rates to the AAA rates I was getting at area hotels. AAA came back with a rate lower than the same hotel’s AAA rate, PLUS bonus gas (oh so nice when it’s $2.80 a gallon around here now) and food cards. I booked. So we have tip number one: price your options. I generally use an aggregator such as Kayak or farecast, then I go in and check the AAA rates of those hotels.
I’m also looking to save money on meals while we’re away. In addition to the food cards, I also looked up some Mystic area restaurants on Restaurant.com, and I also plan on using the Johnny Rocket bogo Boca burger deal for a meal…thereby saving money.

Is your gas really $2.80 a gallon?? Ours is $3.99!
Does Mystic have some cool places to visit or just a cool name?

Carrie-yes, our gas is only$2.80-and this wasn’t even at the cheap place in town.
Mystic’s an old new England seaside town-so there’s shops, a historic village, an aquarium-plus it’s near two casinos.

Wow!! $2.80. We’re at $3.70 at the cheapest place on a good day. *sigh*
Great tips too btw.
