Quality vs. Price

First of all, hello to those of who who came here courtesy of Lexie’s blog. Welcome!

If you caught the Suze Orman spoof on Saturday Night Live a couple of months ago, you probably were highly amused by it-especially the “people first, then money, then things, then jackets.” Tragically, SNL pulled all YouTube links of this skit, so I cannot link to it.

However, if here at Penny for my Thoughts I had such a sign off, it would be “People first, then money, then vacations, then purses, then things.” Or something similar.

Anyway, the Herve Chapilier bag I bought with my college graduation money that I used daily for two years had a can of Coke explode in it last week, so it needed replacing. I was 99% sure which bag I wanted (Vera Bradley’s messenger bag), but wanted to see it in person. I looked at some less expensive bags, particularly on eBags.com, who has great customer service and I could get Sunshine Rewards credit (to be used on vacations-see how this works?). But I wanted to check the Messenger bag out to be sure I liked it. It took trip to four different retailers, but I finally got mine today (in Botanica, for those of you who care about such things). I finally got mine today, while expensive messenger bags aren’t the best personal finance decision, they do wear well, which makes the cost worth it to me. And I did use a leftover Visa gift card from Christmas, so I could defray the cost a bit.
