We’ve all been there. We just have to have that pumpkin pie, bowl of ice cream, or chocolate. Unfortunately we usually crave foods that are full of comfort but don’t do our diets any favors. So next time you hear the donuts calling your name, try these strategies and see if they help.
1. Drink a glass of water. Cravings often signal that our bodies actually need water.
2. Change activities. Cravings tend to pass quickly but can be hard to get off our mind if we focus on them. So find a new activity like taking a walk, a bath or checking your email.
3. Brush your teeth. You’ve probably heard this one before. Food tends to be less tempting when your mouth is clean (not to mention minty).
4. If you are still hungry after 10 minutes, give in to the craving but restrain it to under 150 calories.
5. Try to make those calories include tryptophan (turkey, bananas, milk, yogurt etc). It prompts your body to make the feel good chemical serotonin, which can boost your mood and curb your need for comfort (and your craving).

Thanks for the reminders. My diet has consisted of fudgy brownies and milk lately.
