Giant Tomato Tree

I had never heard of the Giant Tomato Tree until a member at Sunshine Rewards mentioned it. Now all of a sudden it seems like I am seeing it everywhere. I’m infatuated now! I can’t order it yet because I’m going on vacation on Friday and do not want it delivered while I am gone. But I plan on ordering it while I am on vacation so that it is here when I get home.

I love tomatoes. I eat them sliced with salt. I eat them on salads. I make salsa and tomato sauce out of them. I go through so many of them in the summer! So it is definitely worth it to me to give this tomato tree a chance. Last year I planted just a few little tomato plants and they did okay.

I’ve been searching around for the best prices on the Giant Tomato trees. Gardeners’ Choice had them but I have not been seeing great feedback about them. So I found two other places: Carol Wright Gifts and Dr. Leonards. Here are some links for you to check them out:

Before you order check out this site what other people are saying about their experience with Gardener’s Choice and then you decide if its worth it. I was going to order too but after reading all the reviews I think I am going to stick with my local gardening store.

Well, I bought the giant tomato tree(s) in January and they were delivered in April. I thought I would receive two plants, but I received two small fiber pots with the tomato seeds already embedded in the soil. Good news is that one pot has sprouted approx. 6 plants. Can’t wait to see if this thing really works. Sadly, I fall for most gimics that cost $15 or less.

Hi Tina, You’ll need to contact Gardeners Choice about a refund. I actually bought them the same as you. :) Although mine are not bearing tomatoes yet, they are growing nicely–along with the strawberry plants that I purchased from them. We’ll see if we start to get some fruit on any of it soon.

We bought seeds from gardnerschoice.com and WOW, yes they took nearly 8 weeks to sprout, but now we have 2 giant 6 ft high tomato plants with fruit, they are in a greenhouse too, and we live at 8500ft in the rockies

the Giant Tree Tomato is not a real tomato. It is a slow-growing “clade” (distant relative) native to Peru, South Africa, etc. And the photos on the Web site are totally bogus. The fruit are elongated, full of seeds, and not very palatable.

I too am interested in giving them a chance. I will post on here when I get my order taken care of. I am keeping my fingers crossed to see if it works.

My husband became so thrilled when he saw the TV ad with the giant tomatoe plants that I decided to order. When I got the order I did not realize that these plants where seeds. Oops! I did start them and found that only 1 out of 3 pots actual started sprouting. I was shocked when I got my statement that I spent $61.85 including shipping for 6 giant & 6 be. This almost comes to $10.31 for one pot of seeds. I could of gone to the nursery and got 60 plants that have been grown. I will never let my husband talk me into ordering from TV commercials again!

I was terribly disappointed in the Giant Tree Tomatoes. I bought them for my 92 year old father, at his request. He died the next week. I planted the tomatoes in his honor. You can imagine how disappointed I am not seeing them grow. I see that the TV commercial have stopped in my area.

My father ordered some and started them. We were, of course, also surprised that only seeds arrived instead of the plants that we expected. However, more plants started than we actually ordered–one good thing. The bad thing is that I planted them in my garden along with other, earlier varieties that I had started and then promtply forgot which ones were the “giant tree tomatoes!” It’s now the end of July and there aren’t any plants yet that have grown higher than 3-4 feet. I live in Wisconsin (and it’s been unusually cool this summer) and we only have one month left for growing, but I will be incredibly surprised if the plant doubles in size and hits 6 feet like promised to do in 3 months (it’s been in the garden for 2 months now). No tomatoes yet, either!! I agree with others here with just buying your own from a local nursery or starting your own that you buy as seed!
