Are You Using Trackbacks?

December 6th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I’ve mentioned before in my various blogs that although I have a lot of Internet experience, I don’t have a lot of blogging experience. Thus, I have been reading up a great deal lately on the technology behind blogs. One feature that you might not be taking advantage of is the Trackback feature. This allows you essentially to link up one of your posts with a post on another blog that is similar. It’s a great way to not only spread the word about your blog but also acknowledge someone else’s blog if you enjoyed it or found good information there.

Most blog programs will have Trackback functionality built into them. For example, I am using Wordpress. Within my “Write Post” screen, there is a dropdown option for “Trackbacks.” I simply need to include in the box the full URL of the blog post that I would like to track back to. Be sure to include the Trackback URL, not just the URL to the blog. This will be a specific URL that ends in either number or text similar to the title of the blog.

Give your trackback a try using this post as an example and I’ll do the same with a post on HomeSchoolBlogger that inspired me to write this one.

So is this another option to outwardly linking to another post?
