Breast Cancer in Children

June 4th, 2009 · No Comments

Can you believe there is a 10 year old girl with breast cancer? No age is safe from this deadly disease.  Having a 10 year old daughter myself, this really scares me.

She was diagnosed with invasive secretory carcinoma, a type discovered in children in the 1960s.

The fifth-grader at Escalona Elementary School in this Los Angeles bedroom community complained of itching in her side in April. Her mother discovered a lump, and that led to a diagnosis of breast cancer.

Fortunately though, “Hannah’s prognosis is very good and the type of cancer is very slow growing,” her father, Jeremy, said in an e-mail Wednesday.

Hannah needs our thoughts and prayers as she begins this difficult journey.
