Pandemonium in Tennessee

September 20th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I never really thought I would see a gas shortage especially since the damage from hurricane Ike was only about 6% of the supplies.  But, apparently, in Nashville, there was a gas shortage today which caused a mad rush to the gas stations.  Come on now, is this really attributed to Ike?  I personally think that the rumors of shortage have increased the demand and thus the shortage.

Of course, people rushing to stock up on gas in a frenzy will also add to the shortage which happened today in Nashville.  Panic causes more problems.  This panic also drives up the profits even more for the oil companies which is what they want.  I think if everyone would just chill out and and not rush out to fill up this weekend that the prices would come down some.  This pandemonium only adds fuel to the fire so to speak in terms of rising gas prices.

Gas stations had as many as 30 cars lined up at the pumps today to fill up.  No wonder there is a shortage.  Come on people, R-E-L-A-X.  Rushing out to fill up your tank is not going to solve anything.  You are only going to cause the prices to go up even more.

I live in Knoxville and you would think that Nashville would have learned something from us. The only reason there was a shortage was because someone started a rumor which led to a panic. You are right; this is why the gas prices shot up. Everyone running out to fill up at the same time. I don’t understand this mass hysteria phenomenon. :)

Great post! Altlanta seems to be having problems finding gas, and I hear Virginia is also having problems:
