The Active Family

Can I just tell you? Ever since my dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer a few years ago, I’ve heard waaaaaay more about my dad’s anatomy than I ever cared to. I have also been SUBJECTED to random discussions regarding my parents’ sex life.

Don’t ask me why….I’m like every other “child” in the world. I may be grown and have children of my own, but as far as I’m concerned, my parents did it exactly twice. Once to get me, and the other to get my sister. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Tonight my Cousin Bill flew in from California, as he is joining us on our trip to Maine. He and my father get along famously, turning into giddy schoolboys at the mere mention of the words beer, bass, lake or lure. After a few beers, the conversation started getting ugly. First Bill brings up a dirty joke, then that sets my dad off into fits of the giggles. Yes…giggles.

Did I mention we were a few beers in?

My dad had to get up to run his droopy drawers to the bathroom (a rather amusing side effect of the prostate cancer) and when he came back, he almost sat on one of the cats. I won’t go into the sordid remark, but it revolved around getting some P action. It was curtains for my evening! My dad, mom and cousin Bill dissolved into hysterical laughter, and I downed the rest of my beer to drown out the echos of my dad saying the P word.

Why? Why do my parent’s have to make sex jokes? It should be illegal. Or a commandment.

Thou shalt not make disgusting comments around thy offspring.

I pledge here and now, never to embarrass my children like that. Well, maybe I will just once, just to even the score.

Off to bed I go. Hopefully my dear darling husband will help me take my mind off of my dad saying that word….heh. Helps that we are staying in the bedroom directly over my parents.
