New Year, New Decade (for me)

by nicholmom3 on December 5, 2009

I’m turning the big 3-0 in a few weeks, and I have no problem with it! I am soooo done with my twenties. I’m sure if I hadn’t started a family so young I would still want to hold on tight to my youth, but I’m ready to move on and get all grown up. :)

I’m not setting any resolutions this year, since I ignore them after January 18th anyway, but I do have some goals I want to work on, although I suppose “goals” are the same as “resolutions”. Whatever. My goal this year is to head back to school. I have to start rather slowly, as I am working full time, and until we are 100% debt free (so soon!) that can not change. For the past few months I’ve been checking out an online university to get me started. I have a few “core” studies to complete that are all offered online, which would fit my busy schedule better than set schedules. After I get as many of those out of the way I will go full time to a local college. I plan on going to Dental School in 5 years, so I will need to do all my science courses in person, of course. If I didn’t have my heart set on being a dentist I would seriously consider an online nursing degree instead.

The state school I am considering does offer a few online courses, but I think I will find more of what I need with a program that those offered at Western Governors University. They offer the nursing program so I can get a ton of my cores out of the way, and then whatever I have to attend a lab for, I can do at the local state school. I figure it will add a year on to my undergrad work, but it will allow me to cash flow everything. Since I’ll be paying roughly 80k a year for Dental school, cash flowing now is a good idea.
