Maine Trip Diary-On the Road!

by nicholmom3 on July 21, 2008

The beginning of the trip was smooth and uneventful. We had everything packed up the night before, and only needed to rearrange a few things between the truck and my SUV before we got on the road. We stopped for a fill up at the station down the street ($4.05…what a bargain!) and hit the road by 9:30. It was only an hour later than we had planned, so we were in good shape!

The kids had plenty to entertain themselves for the 5 hour ride. My mom had loaned us her portable dvd player, so they watched a movie, and also listened to their Disney Mix Stix. I drove the whole way, since I tend to get car sick really easily.

We drove straight through without stopping! I blindly followed the GPS and it took us Rt 95 to 295, and then to Rt 3. We actually ended up in Ellsworth 40 minutes ahead of my parents! The scenery coming up was beautiful, going through sleepy little sea towns and past miles and miles of healthy green foliage. There is nothing that makes me happier than to see acres of trees left alone! It’s one of my peeves living in a suburb. It seems like every possible square foot is torn down for another house!

Anyway, Ellsworth is a great place for a family vacation. The town is really springing up, so there is everything you could need. Plenty of hotel/motels, and TONS of rentals around Graham Lake. The cabins we stayed at were seriously adorable, and the price very reasonable. I’ll go over them more in another post.

Stay tuned and thanks for reading!
