Woohoo!!!
I had to go through a surprisingly extensive certification process today, and thankfully I passed! I’ve been training for about a month now, and this was the final part of the process.
So, yes, I am now officially certified to pour coffee.
Anyone who has ever been to a Starbucks knows that there is a heck of a lot more to it than that, but I find it amusing that I had to go through a 3+ hour certification over coffee.
For anyone still interested, I was “quizzed” on over 50 questions relating to operations, I had to make 4 different drinks, hold a coffee tasting, demonstrate usage of a french press, hold a pastry sampling, and also demonstrate the proper way to clean the lobby. When it was all said and done I was completely exhausted!
I was told that I am the first “barista” in the store to pass the new testing standards. Apparently the higher ups have found that baristas have been slacking on the standards, so they instituted a new training and certification, just in time for me to be hired! Yea!
All joking aside, it’s a really great company so far. I’m loving the atmosphere, the benefits are great, and I’ve really come to appreciate the nuances of fine coffee. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I’ll do my best to answer them!

Congrats! Any chances that they will bring back the mocha banana frapps this summer? How about the crumbleberry cake? Those were both my favorite seasonal items.

I am addicted to Starbucks. I have never been a coffee drinker and still hate straight coffee, but whatever they do to make White Chocolate Mocha does it for me. It is my fave! Congrats on your certification. I think I’ll go get some Starbucks today to celebate!!

I love Starbucks. I see they are testing out a couple new programs, 1.00 small coffees and free refills. Count me in, I’ll be there everyday for that.
