Today I worked on a Habitat For Humanity site. It was set up through Starbucks, and I was one of the lucky 12 that was accepted on to the site. I was really surprised when we arrived at the house, as I expected a much smaller place, and it was really quite nice!
The house is located in Braintree, Ma. It is a 2 story, 3 bedroom home. The home is mainly done, everything we were working on today was mainly trim work, baseboards, and painting. I did the baseboards in the living room and kitchen along with another girl, and we totally rocked!
After a slight learning curve we were soon wielding the power saw and nail gun like pros.
I highly recommend everyone look into helping this program. Even if you have no experiance with building, the coordinators will teach you and are sure to find a job for you. For instance, my boss was there and had ZERO skills with anything we were doing. The project manager worked with him for awhile, and before long, he was measuring, cutting, and installing trim around all the door frames! It was a great experiance and one I look forward to repeating in the coming months.

I’ve always thought about helping with Habitat but figured my skill set wouldn’t be all that good. Glad to hear they do help you out so you can work with them.
