Dear Nike, Are You For Real?

by nicholmom3 on October 1, 2009

While doing my morning browse of the internet headlines, I came across the startling news that Nike has resumed it’s business relationship with Michael Vick.

Let’s let that one sink in for a bit.

I didn’t really have a problem with Vick being let back into the NFL. I felt he served his time (though the sentance could have been a bit tougher) and had the right to seek employment. Since he found a team willing to “hire” him, so be it.

I don’t really begrudge him from persuing endorsment deals. Hey, that’s where the big bucks are, right? My problem is with Nike’s stupidity. That’s right. S.T.U.P.I.D.

Nike, you morons, just hired an ex con to hype your products. Not just any  ex con, but one vilified for causing extreme harm to animals. His name will be forever attached to animal abuse, no matter what his sports accomplishments. I’m sure the payout is going to be insane for Vick, and I’m just going to sit back and watch the backlash on Nike. I can assure you, not a single Nike product will find it’s way into my home ever again, including the new sneakers I was thisclose to ordering, and the Nike+ program I’ve been pondering.

Gone are the Nike sweats, and I will go out of my way to avoid Nike cleats for my son and daughter come the spring.  I do have to look into thier swim teams to see who makes the suits, as I WILL raise a stink if it is Nike apparel as well.

Not a good move, not a good move at all.
