The Active Family

I normally tackle my fall cleaning after the kids go to school, but this year my to do list has become so out of control I am feeling the need to “git on it” way sooner. Besides, the weather has been fall like anyway lately, so I’m getting in the mindset.

One factor that makes almost fall cleaning look rather attractive is the fact that the kids are still around to do some of the heavy lifting. I always have a ton of laundry to tackle as I weed through the too small, worn out, not-suitable-for-winter, clothes. I try to sell as much as I can, and donate the rest. Lately though I’ve been buying the cheaper clothes, as the kids have been really rough on them, so I’m not anticipating much to be sold. I do have a lot of friends with young kids though, so at least they will go to people who will get more use from them.

Also on my list is tackling the dust and grime that has settled on all my window sills. It’s been so windy and rainy this summer that the sills have become disgusting. No amount of dusting helps when the dirt gets wet! Along with this task falls the cleaning of the patio and furniture, and digging out the outdoor furniture covers. I probably will save that one for last, as I’m sure we’ll see more sun before winter.

Making my list ridiculously longer than last year is the sheer amount of crap we have accumulated in the past year. For some reason, we became serious pack rats this year, and as a result have exceeded our storage capacity! (nice way of saying our stiff has taken over!) I need to organize and pare down like mad! I’m thinking it will take more than a few days to weed my way through the porch, basement, and er….my closet.

Shudder.
