Slugbug!

May 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Okay, our new favorite car game is Slugbug!  Have you ever played?  It requires you to look for Volkswagon Beetles and slug the person next to you.  It started out as an annoying contest between my children.  One would slug too hard, or the other would slug too often.  Over time it has turned into an addiction when we get in the vehicle that even has official rules!  I thought you might like to learn them should your family need something fun to keep them occupied in the car.  It’s so fun–we can’t see a Volkswagon Beetle without saying Slugbug!  My husband even tries to win points when he’s by himself by texting you, Slugbug–that of course is not fair!

1.  First, decided whether you will score the game on a one way or round trip.

2.  Play begins as soon as you put the car in drive.

3.  Each player is responsible for his/her own score.

4.  Points are counted as follows:

1 Point per Slugbug

2 Points for Slugbugs with extra features, i.e. flower caps on the tail lights, flower vase by the steering wheel, cool paint job like black spots on a red paint job, etc.

2 points for a Classic (You remember the old style Beetle, right?)

5.  All scored slugbugs must be identified by color and validated by at least one other person in the vehicle.

6.  Double calling the same slugbug in the same trip loses a point.

7.  Calling Slugbug on a nonVW Beetle loses a point.

8.  When two people call the same Slugbug at the same time–no points are awarded.

9.  Whoever has the most points at the end of the predetermined trip wins!

We play almost every time we are in the car.  Our best game recently was while on our trip to Hilton Head.  I got beat 32-24 by my husband.  My score would have been better had DH not scored while I slept.  The kids were too into movies to play!  Sad when the adults take over the kids’ game.

Give it a try.  It’s great fun for the whole family!
