OMG! You won’t believe what my son did. I hope I’m not the only parent with a semi-independent, semi-stupid (term used lightly) teen. He has gotten really good at getting himself up for school, showering, getting breakfast, and packing his lunch. I’m impressed anyway. He’s in the 7th grade and wants to be in control. We got him an alarm clock for Christmas, and he’s done well with it. Although at the time he was not all that excited about getting “responsibility” disguised as a gift. So, I’ve stopped worrying about him in the mornings. I get up when I need to, do my thing, and head downstairs. He is almost always at the table eating something gourmet and fresh from the toaster for breakfast!
Okay, so a couple of weeks ago (I had forgotten the event until I ran across pictures today.), he was running late and in a rush. Given his limited time, he decided to warm a couple of pop tarts in the microwave. Sounds okay, right? BUT. . .No it wasn’t. I was getting dressed when I smelled something. Now from my bedroom, just over the kitchen, I couldn’t tell what the smell was just that it was likely toasted. As I neared the stairs, I was certain that it was something toasted, likely burnt. As I got to the bottom of the stairs and rounded the corner into the kitchen, I was blinded by smoke and choking! Oh, you think I am exaggerating for the blog reader’s benefit–I assure you that I am not. I exclaimed, “What did you do?” He answered, “Oh, mom, I am so sorry–I was watching TV while I waited for my pop tarts to warm–The next thing I saw was smoke rolling out of the microwave.” I said, “Did you take them out of the foil wrapper?” He said, “Yes (with tears near the edges of his adrenaline-rushed, blue eyes)–BUT I guess two minutes is probably too long for pop tarts to get warm in the microwave.”

Well. . .Two minutes IS probably too long! And aren’t you glad there are pictures to prove it! LOL!

Hilarious! I have a 7th grade boy too….he would have done the same thing. But…if you put a toaster in the microwave for 2 mintues, wouldn’t he have had enough time to toast it in the toaster? LOL Gotta love teen boys!

Yeah that is the funniest part–He should have just put them in the toaster. I guess he figured 2 minutes in the microwave was faster than two minutes in the toaster!

how funny! at least he knew to take them out of the foil wrapper. I give him props for that. Besides I still make blunders in the kitchen so I can’t laugh too hard at him.

Oh my, that is too funny! I guess he can chalk this one up to “one of life’s lessons.”
