I ran across information on this event when looking for service project ideas for our Youth Council at church. I was excited to see that the value of youth service is being recognized on a global scale. This event is in its 8th or 9th year and encourages youth in singles or in groups from all walks of life, backgrounds, or organizations to reach out into their world and be of service. Can you imagine what would happen in our world if we empowered our youth to affect change? Can you imagine the impact we could make in the lives of the needy with the power of millions of youth? Kids can do great things! If you are involved with a group or just want to get your own children involved in a service project, check out www.gysd.net. There you will find lots of ideas for service and ways to get plugged into a service group for this year’s event. You can also register your own youth service project.
At church, we are currently planning a summer gardening project that our youth will plant, care for, and harvest. We hope to use the fresh produce to feed the hungry via numerous food pantries and shelters. We are going to begin the project during the Global Youth Service Event.
Get inspired–Get involved! I believe that the more we allow our children to make an impact on and in the world around them the better our world will be.
