I try to make sure that at least once a week we push the electronics aside and play a good old-fashioned board game. I think this is one of my favorite family moments. I’m always on the lookout for a new game. I thought I’d share a few of my favorites (that maybe aren’t the most tradional of games) with you and maybe you can let me know some of your family’s favorites:
Our current favorite is a new one I found during the holidays - Uno Spin. We are an Uno-Loving Family. We have several versions, but I think this one may be my favorite since the original one. This version of the game has “spin cards” that cause you to spin a wheel to determine your fate. You may have the opportunity to lay down cards and you may have to draw. If I get to choose a game, this is the one I choose most weeks now.
Another of my favorites is Skip-Bo. This is a game that I had growing up, but I’ve learned in the last couple years that it’s not as common as I thought. Skip-bo is a card game where your goal (like Uno) is to get rid of your cards. However, this time you are trying to eliminate the cards in a specific pile instead of in your hand. Another way it is different from Uno is that you lay down the cards in numerical order (1-12) instead of matching numbers and colors.
Disney Scene It is Cameron’s favorite. She will play it by herself just to memorize all of the answers. She’s really cute, and has done a pretty good job so she can beat me on occasion. This is a Disney trivia game where some of the questions are played on a DVD that comes with the game. What I dont like about this game is that a lot of the questions are geared towards the older Disney movies that Cameron has never seen or even heard of. I think that the new edition of Disney Scene It is supposed to be more modern, but we haven’t bought this one yet.
Does your family have a favorite game? I’d love to hear about it.
