Finding the Perfect Domain Name

April 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Ever wonder about domain names? Wish you could find just that one you’re looking for? I added my 4th domain name to my collection this past week for a new blog I’m starting and have to admit that it can sometimes be very frustrating to register a domain. First you have to sit around and brainstorm. Deciding what you want may be the hardest part, but then you have to cross your fingers and just hope that it is actually available.  I’ve had about 50/50 luck with this part. Half the time I’ve been able to get just the URL I was wanting, and half the time, I’m out of luck and have to go back to square one.

I just learned of a new feature that could be very useful when wanting to register a domain - watching for recently expired domains. Network Solutions will allow you to search on their website for recently expired domains. Not sure what you want? You can type in just one word that you know you want in the domain and they will show you all of those that fit that category. For example, I searched for my name and for the word Disney out of curiousity and found a handful of domain names that had become available in the last month.

Your domain not listed, but you’re still hoping that it will be one day? Network Solutions has a great new service where you can subscribe to a RSS feed for a specific domain or just a word in the domain you know you want.  Wouldn’t this be handy? To know as soon as a domain becomes available and able to buy it quickly would be a great asset to anyone looking to register a specific or variety of domains. I’m excited to have found this site and have to admit that I’ve already set up a few alerts for myself.
