The Busy Life of a Single Mom

The mailings have begun. My daughter (who is a sophomore) now receives at least three or four college mailings a week from different colleges and university across the nation.  While I find these to be an inconvience most of the time, they have done one good thing for us. They have gotten her interest up, and she has started thinking seriously about her future.  In fact, both of us have started browsing the Internet looking for general college information. I’m really amazed at how much different things are now than when I was preparing for college.

There is one college that has very interesting approach to recruiting – only videos starring “Stickman.” Kettering University has about ten Stickman videos dealing with admissions issues for prospective students that are all quite interesting. The videos are acutally helpful for all students even those who may not be giving Kettering much consideration at this point. The videos can be reached by going here or by going to YouTube and searching for Kettering Stickman. Kettering University provides a co-op education. They offer many majors including Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics and Mechanical Engineering and is located in Flint, Michigan. US News and World Report ranked Kettering University as “the #1 University in the nation for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering” in its annual “America’s Best Colleges Guide for 2008.” If you or anyone you know are preparing for college, I encourage you to browse Kettering’s website and while you are there, check out the Stickman videos.
