What am I doing on this great Friday night? Yes…I am entering an unknown world. My girls decided they want to be in the Miss Merry Christmas pageant this year. I never had any interest in this so this is a total unknown for me. We have gone this week to have manicures and pedicures. We’ve bought the dresses and shoes and jewelry and hair stuff. I’ve even got an escort for my 7 year old. What a craziness this is! I have never truly approved of beauty pageants. Here we, as women, claim to be so modernized and do not want to be seen as someone’s object, but we subject ourselves to this? In our community’s defense, we do have the Mr. Elfkin contest too. LOL And to top all of this off, even if it didn’t bother me for women to be put on show for their looks, there is all the politics that goes into these things. (but that’s an entire other story)
But irregardless, all of my previous opinions have been thrown out the window and we must spend all night getting everything prim and proper. Who knew you had to start on hair hours in advance? As I sit here and type this, my mom is putting ringlets (as she calls them) in my daughter’s hair for her to sleep in! Signs still have to be made, the vehicle has to be washed and decorated (and goodness knows what else I will find out about at the last minute as I am so clueless). I guess I’m a little lucky - the theme is “A Redneck Christmas” so my lack of talent will fit right in, right?
Honestly, I’m proud of my girls for working to be members of our new community - even if I would have been ok with skipping out of this opportunity. And I’m sure they will be absolutely beautiful Saturday. I have convinced my Mom to be in charge of all the primping (the girls and the vehicle) so that all I have to do is take orders. So maybe…..everything will go smoothly (yea right!). I’ll be sure to let you know.
